Been doing some testing of my coolant temp sensor. They are located near the thermostat housing. You need to remove heaps of pipes to see this properly. Here is a pic of the Temp sensor and Temp sender for those interested. The temp Sender is brown and this connects to the the dash temp gauge.
I assume the tunit box plugs into the rail pressure sensor nd fools the ecu into putting a higher pressure into the rail, its a seriously steep price for that. You can achieve the same thing by swapping the rail pressure sensor from the 2.3jtd or another bosch rail sensor.

Our B544 (2002) with the 2.8JTD engine takes a very long time to warm up and the temperature never goes above 1/4. Our friend with a similar Hymer (a bit older and larger - no! The Hymer, not the friend!) also sees the same thing. The Fiat handbook shows the temperature coming up to normal (1/2 way).

5. Apr 19, 2014. #1. I have an Autotrail 630S on a 2001 Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD. The battery charging light is staying on. I have had the alternator tested and it has been verified as working. The alternator was removed and bench tested. It was replaced and all connections cleaned. The charging light is still on.

Hi The engine speed sensor is located on the back of the engine (rear side) just under the turbocharger near the bell housing, it has a protective "bracket" held on by 2 x10mm bolts. If you crawl under the vehicle from the RHS you can see it, as I said just below the Turbo. .
